KeymasterThanks man, gonna try to get some steel through work and put pen to paper again.
Where do you buy your receivers? Just a princess auto special, or is there better source?I dig that you chopped back the exhaust a little, those lower bed side kick ups looks pretty good. Curious what your front is gonna look like.

KeymasterGood start on the bumper. I’d either turn down the tip (cut it, rotate 90 degrees, weld back), Or put it through the tube bumper. Double stack those side rails once you cut the bedside, and put a hole saw through the midpoint.
What size steel do you use for the bumper to frame connection plates? And the bulk of the bumper? I’m determined to make a bumper for Redee this year, but I don’t know what specs to target for the steel. Please enlighten me buddy.

KeymasterLast night in The Shop, I fabbed up a new eccentric washer for Prestons snow blower. While walking it back around his house, one of the tracks started to come off, so he shut’r down and “dragged the effer home”.
I simply traced one of the washers that hadnt rattled loose on scrap metal, and reinstalled with a new bolt and lock washer.
Good to go!toys-n-yotas
KeymasterCool buddy! The wheels are a sick colour, and tires look to be of proper size. Truck will look wicked on Chevy leaf springs, a mod I’ve always wanted to do.

KeymasterGlad they put a clutch in it, frustrating they omitted (or lied) about the other issues. How much of the e-brake system is missing?
Taco looks great on those rims and tires! Are they 33s or 35s? Hard to tell, but lookin’ like 35s.
Gonna need to see a picture the taco with your trailer hooked up 👍🏽

KeymasterIt took a couple attempts but I found that a Canadian Tire Type A V-belt fit the auger pulleys perfectly. Prestons blower is only 5-hp (once upon a time), so I’m not too worried about it burning out the cheap belt. $25 in total parts and now he’s all done shovelling.
Yesterday was a 1/2 day at work, so I used some daylight hours to do another repair to Weldy. One of the two bolts that hold the handle bars on has been refusing to hold torque for two seasons. So I added some lightning to stabilize them and stop the flopping.
This morning I was up early and fixed Rusty with some welder action as well. Tough to explain the problem, but the symptom was no drive. When you squeeze the drive trigger, a cable pulls up on a lever, the lever rotates a shaft which moves the friction plate towards the friction wheel. The lever which causes the shaft to rotate had a stress crack and was not creating rotation. Think of it like having stripped splines. So I snaked my welder up into place and fuse those suckers together. Worked like a charm!

KeymasterHey buddy the new Taco looks great. Hope your parts come in quickly and your safety is straight forward.
Are the rear springs flat, or the front already have a lift in it? Looks a little higher in the front already.
I remember seeing that truck on kijiji (and in person a few years ago), and the scaffolding in the bed was pretty intense. I wonder how much weight you shed by not buying that part.toys-n-yotas
KeymasterIt’s been more than 10-years since I rode shotgun on one of those adventures, and I put no effort into the planning or acquisition…just shot gun.
But that does sound like quite the process.
Consider: Buy it, drive it most of the way home to a long term parking garage in Buffalo, then go home and do all the paperwork, pick it up after it all clears. At least you won’t do paperwork if you dont buy, or have to make the full trip distance twice. That first gen looks sweet. Did you have one of those before the 4Runners?

KeymasterNo more snow since Tues/Weds of last week.
Last night I pulled the belt cover off Prestons snowblower to find an incredibly dry twisted and misset belt. It broke after one little pull. The tension bearing spins great, so I cleaned up the melted belt with a wire wheel. Ready for a new belt, hopefully a few bucks locally.

KeymasterUp next, two more snowblowers. Matt’s affectionately named Rusty 2.0 the successor to Rusty who was sent to scrap 5-years ago… R2.0 needs a new friction wheel cause it is losing drive.
Also my neighbour Preston just received a snowblower from his dad as a “First House” gift. His threw snow well for about 10 mins then smelt of burning rubber, then no mo snow throw. So we’ll see if it just needs adjustment, a belt, or a bearing too.toys-n-yotas
KeymasterA slight change of pace in The Shop the last two nights, Toyotas and Toys were not the focus. Instead, it’s Snowblowers taking centre stage.
I have a Troy Bilt unit (recently named Weldy, more on that later) with a 11hp Tecumseh and a 30” cut, circa 2003-2005 (can’t quite remember). To date, Weldy has only ever had oil changes and perhaps one spark plug. Near the end of last year I started seeing that rust was really taking over the auger frame area, but it didnt look too bad…..however I was quite rudely awoken to Weldy’s actual condition on wednesday night. One of the slider plates caught an ice chunk, and the rust let go allowing the auger to catch the shave plate and jam. Thankfully 3 shear pins (which were the originals) popped and no further damage occurred.
Thursday I bought new shear pins $8, and 3’ of 2”x2” angle iron from work $0, and after the kids went to bed, I started riggin’.
Some cuts, some grind, and about 2lbs of flux core wire later, the damaged side was repaired. FUGLY, but functional.
Friday night I set out to prevent “the good side” from having the same fate, I dont wanna buy more shear pins afferall. Repeat the same process, and another FUGLY but operational repair.
So there, Weldy works, throws snow like a champ, and finally earned a nickname after 17-19 years of service. Hopefully I’ll get another 5-10 out of this, but with my absolute disregard for weld prep, who really knows.

KeymasterGlad to hear you got it sorted out. Loaded up with both toys I’m sure you’d appreciate the tongue jack.
Too many kijiji scams these days. I’ve also been ghosted more times than I can count in recent months. Found a 3RZ donor, replied with “I have cash and a trailer” more than 3 weeks ago. Ad still up, still no reply. Arrrrgggghhhh!!

KeymasterNice, that’ll keep the jetski safe down the trail!
Bad ground is my guess. Old wire snagged or frayed somewhere perhaps.

KeymasterDamn, that over/under for the atv and jetski is awesome! Are you gonna add some skid plate to protect the hull at all? Or the 33’s and square tubing enough confidence to protect on the trail?
I had managed to drag my pos trailer out to the ardbeg campsite on the point last year without (much) damage, but it wasn’t happy nor is it built right for the job. I understand how you’d want brakes especially on a tougher trail, with some steep declines. The entire way in I was comforted knowing if the trailer died I’d only be out $200 and that the atv could fit in the bed. Was really suprised it made it the round trip.
Sorry, no hookups for mig.

KeymasterCongrats on completing the sale buddy! I’m sure the buyer appreciated the fluid changes and detailing, looks even better than the ad.
I really like Landcruisers, pretty sure I’ll own one at some point in my life. Finding a factory diesel would part of my scope, figure a rig that size could use the torque, and I really want a Toyota diesel truck. Seems like the upcoming Tacos are more likely to bring a hybrid option than diesel option.
For your next truck, what’s your main criteria? 6ft box? Access cab or double? Auto or manual? Stock or tweaked? I’m on kijiji almost everyday, keeping my eyes peeled for my donor, or bumpers.
