KeymasterSounds like a solid plan. The stiff rear lift springs and light rear end prolly ruining your traction. What kinda locker options you have?

KeymasterI found 5100s to ride well in Redee, and Matt is liking his 5100s in the 4th gen. He says they ride WAY BETTER than the X-REAS system that came stock (and appeared to be original 17 years later). He got lift springs and UCA to make it all fit, something like 3-4” lift with no additional weight.
Hard to justify $3000+ for front setup just on components. I agree, SAS better use of that cash, would take more abuse.

KeymasterWent riding around the back roads Friday afternoon and passed by a country estate with a freebie at the curb. An older 3-in-1 wood chipper, mulcher, leaf shredder.
Luckily for us it was still there an hour later when Matt doubled back with the 4Runner after dropping off his bike at home.
Plan to get this running and sell it for beer money. OR if it’s pooched, turn its scrap metal value into beer money.

KeymasterYesterday, OUT of the shop came my DR600 for a very windy ride to work. I could bave car pooled with James, but I missed out on Tuesdays golden opportunity to ride and didnt want to wait another week to start riding.
The wind guards I installed over winter were pretty effective, and the ammo box even moreso because it allowed me to ditch the backpack and store my coleman 6-pack lunchbox inside.Last week on a walk around the block, while passing by Prestons house I found the cam wheel for tensioning the track of his snowblower on the edge of the sidewalk. So I’ll replace my homemade cam sometime before next winter.

KeymasterLooks good buddy. Gonna lay out some tri-colour stripes to match the bedsides?

KeymasterDoesn’t look like much, but I got another hour of work completed on the donor dashboard. I’d say 75% of the connectors have been identified and freed up. Gotta pull the HVAC system and drop the steering column to free up the rest of the connectors.

KeymasterLooks killer! Glad to hear the new injector solved some issues too!
Countdown is on for trails opening up.

KeymasterProgress is slow, literally only put an hour of effort in the last two weeks. The kids are busy, so as am I.
I got the lower half of the dash out, doing my best to label all the connections as it should make obsoleting them from the harness a lot easier later.
Hoping I can get a little more time to finish pulling the dash before the week is over.

KeymasterThat very reason is why I refuse to purchase from Marlin Crawler (unless I really really have to). Worst part for me is having to pay the fedex man at the door another $50.
Hope your injector cups arrive soon.

KeymasterI had considered a diesel swap from then for a while (up until recently), but the cost was more than I was willing to spend. The mileage and tuning potential called to me, but just couldnt pull the trigger. Glad I didnt now that I know your experience.
How was shipping and duty from LCE? I really really wanna buy their longtube header, but $459 usd, plus shipping, plus duty, plus exchange rate is off putting. Consider for 1/6th the cost I can buy a new manifold from RockAuto and cure the leak (but suffer on power and noise).

KeymasterGreat troubleshooting, hope you get to the root cause efficiently.
Did you end up getting a tailgate in Barrie?
A real shame about the poor reputability of what I thought was a good source for a used Toyota.

KeymasterGot the rear hatch open! James pulled the exterior latch, I gave it a kick from the inside, and presto, open.
I pulled the front left brake caliper off, and the wheel still would not turn, telling me the wheel bearing has failed and seized solid. Anyways, I tried to pinch off the brake line, and it disintegrated, so it’s just an open system now.
With the caliper off, I was able to reposition the donor in the driveway. 4-Low, first gear, a little clutch riding and she drove like a charm. That wheelbearing even freed up just a little.
That’s all for today, small victory.

KeymasterThats a solid plan, I gotta locate an engine hoist to borrow. I think a buddy in Dundalk has one, I borrowed it almost 10-years ago when I put a clutch into my ‘87 4Runner.
Today I’m gonna start at the 4Runner, trying to take an inventory of what’s good or not. I know the hatches have value, but I havent gotten this one to open yet. Big plan for the day is to get the driver side front caliper off so I can reposition the truck in the driveway.
Evan, send me a list of parts you’d be interested in from this donor. I know it has 4.10 gears, open diffs, and manual everything (locks, windows, mirrors).

KeymasterWell I did it! I jumped on a 3RZ donor truck, and dragged it home ASAP. The couple was sad to depart with a family member, but happy to hear she’ll live on in another Toyota.
I grabbed a 1996 4Runner, with the 2.7L and 5-speed manual I’ve been chewing on retrofitting into Redee for a couple years. The body and frame are both pretty rough, but the engine fired up instantly and idled so smoothly. Only 271,000km on the odo, so she’s barely broken in.
Not too sure on my plan of attack just yet, but I def have to free up a stuck caliper (yank the pads out) so I can move the 4Runner on my driveway. 3 of 4 tires roll with much drag, but one refused to break loose. Currently it’s blocking the bay door so James’ FJ can’t get out.
Should I start by yanking the Chevy outta Redee, or the 3RZ outta the donor?

KeymasterLooks solid man, def ready for some abuse. Amazing how quickly you get shit done. It’ll look less bulky with the winch fairlead breaking up that leading edge.
