I put in a solid three hours today cleaning the rad, picking 20 years of dead bug remains from the fins, and straightening about 500 bent over fins.

When I was contempt there, I threw in a new set of H4 sealed beam bulbs I grabbed off RockAuto for $6 ea as part of a “warehouse closing sale” a few months ago. I still have to re-align them beams once it gets dark enough to do so.

That’s not the first time I’ve been complimented in that manner. Better than lookin’ smart till I open my mouth (or type something).

That BBQ stand on the side is my fav part so far. 1 concern, smoke/steam/splatters will be right under your tent. Good in the morning if you or wifey Q up some bacon & eggs!!

Last night I took Redee for a tour, and my temps were much improved, On average all my temps were 20-30F colder….but so was the ambient temp. So not much learned there.

What I truly noticed was the lower under hood temps. I didn’t leave skin behind while trying to pop the hood, as everything was much less heat soaked.

Planning to pressure wash the rad from engine bay side to blast dead bugs and dirt out.

Yesterday in The Shop, new toys! As my in-laws continue sorting through their uncles estate, I am approached with “would you like….?” I have a hard time turning down free stuff, so I came home with yet another bicycle, a sweet axe, two coleman camp stoves and lantern, hip waiters, and some very old hand drills, and a RF Generator.

Last night I rigged up a lock bolt for the folding bicycle. Other than the 1 missing piece, its brand new with plastic wrap on parts.

A few things to keep me busy.

Perhaps with the Spring-over mod and fully loaded with gear, your net ride height may not be much increased, you may Still get the tire/fender look when weighted down.

    Atv 300kg
    Tent 50kg
    Water @ 1kg/L (est 20-40kg)
    Propane @ 10 kg
    Deep cell @ 20kg
    Tongue box and tools…

There is a weather strip at that same edge, but it’s quite short in height and sits below the cowl/wiper motor cover. Removing it will only net 1-2 mm, and introduce a new rattle at the base of the windshield.

Still trying to avoid holes in the hood; fresh air scoop, heat vent, louver, etc.

Won’t get much of an apples-apples comparison today, daytime high is 20 degrees lower than Tuesday was. Should make for good cruising temps though even with a craptastic fan.

I’ve started PB Blasting the front bumper mounting hardware, it’ll have to come off to replace the primary rad fan.

Tedious, yes that’s exactly the word I couldn’t spit out.

I added a big fat washer to the hood hinges, made a little over 1/4” opening at the cowl, hopefully an effective heat escape. It’s way more temporary than the tape lines I layed out.

Next week I’ll prolly check the two shops in town to see what they’d charge to flush my radiator. I feel it wouldn’t hurt, but also not the lowest hanging fruit.

Last night in The Shop, I scattered 1,000,000 itchy fiberglass fibres all over while heat wrapping Redee’s headers.

Perhaps I’ll shim the back edge during the day today, pretty sure I could find a pint-sized volunteer to help.

My excitement was purely out of ignorance, that task was f’in torture. In hindsight, I was excited for the end result, not the process haha.

I used the 25ft length on the drivers side, starting at the rad side of the header, and wrapped down past the bellhousing.

The passenger side I used the 50ft length, and wrapped down to the trans pan.

My timestamps on the pictures tell me it took AT LEAST 2-hours, not including clean up. Those fibres were so itchy.

I’m not gonna use the phrase “never again”, but I don’t plan on doing that again for “a long f’in time”.

Scored a sweet kijiji deal, roughly 75’ of exhaust wrap for $20! The first 50 feet are 1” wide, new in the package, the remaining 25 feet are 2” wide and ‘lightly used’ says the seller. Other than being cut in half, looks new to me. Only had to travel to CFB Borden, abouts 1/2h each way.

I know what I’m working on tonight!

Couldn’t find a hood, also not liking prices for louvers.

Shop is looking great, and a lot deeper from the side profile.
Decide on a colour for the door? What does M suggest?

Today in The Shop, the Katana got an hour of attention. I pulled the tank in anticipation for the new battery which should be here today. With the extra access I cleaned the top end of the carbs, adjusted the throttle linkage, adjusted the TPS sensor and determined the clutch safety switch (starter interlock) has been bypassed cause it’s broken. I ordered a replacement for $20 off ebay, save my Dad (or the next buyer) some cash cause they’re $80 everywhere else I looked.

C’mon Amazon man, bring us a battery!

Tape is the first pre-cut for heat escapes. I put some time in looking last night, but aftermarket hoods aren’t around. I attached an image of some $200 pop-rivet louvers.

Damn near boiled her over last night, temps got up around 240F, when I hit a bunch of traffic lights in Alliston. Was pretty worried, took a good 10 mins to come below 215F, and bottomed at 210F by the time I got home. Under hood temps were up to 175F, and intake temp was pretty steady at 125F.

I found a guy on kijiji selling about 50ft of exhaust wrap for $20, hope to grab it tonight.

Hopefully the header wrap will take some heat out of the engine bay without having to cut the bonnet. Perhaps I’ll shim the cowling edge of the hood up a bit too.
