That very reason is why I refuse to purchase from Marlin Crawler (unless I really really have to). Worst part for me is having to pay the fedex man at the door another $50.

Hope your injector cups arrive soon.

I had considered a diesel swap from then for a while (up until recently), but the cost was more than I was willing to spend. The mileage and tuning potential called to me, but just couldnt pull the trigger. Glad I didnt now that I know your experience.

How was shipping and duty from LCE? I really really wanna buy their longtube header, but $459 usd, plus shipping, plus duty, plus exchange rate is off putting. Consider for 1/6th the cost I can buy a new manifold from RockAuto and cure the leak (but suffer on power and noise).

Great troubleshooting, hope you get to the root cause efficiently.

Did you end up getting a tailgate in Barrie?

A real shame about the poor reputability of what I thought was a good source for a used Toyota.

Got the rear hatch open! James pulled the exterior latch, I gave it a kick from the inside, and presto, open.

I pulled the front left brake caliper off, and the wheel still would not turn, telling me the wheel bearing has failed and seized solid. Anyways, I tried to pinch off the brake line, and it disintegrated, so it’s just an open system now.

With the caliper off, I was able to reposition the donor in the driveway. 4-Low, first gear, a little clutch riding and she drove like a charm. That wheelbearing even freed up just a little.

That’s all for today, small victory.

Thats a solid plan, I gotta locate an engine hoist to borrow. I think a buddy in Dundalk has one, I borrowed it almost 10-years ago when I put a clutch into my ‘87 4Runner.

Today I’m gonna start at the 4Runner, trying to take an inventory of what’s good or not. I know the hatches have value, but I havent gotten this one to open yet. Big plan for the day is to get the driver side front caliper off so I can reposition the truck in the driveway.

Evan, send me a list of parts you’d be interested in from this donor. I know it has 4.10 gears, open diffs, and manual everything (locks, windows, mirrors).

Well I did it! I jumped on a 3RZ donor truck, and dragged it home ASAP. The couple was sad to depart with a family member, but happy to hear she’ll live on in another Toyota.

I grabbed a 1996 4Runner, with the 2.7L and 5-speed manual I’ve been chewing on retrofitting into Redee for a couple years. The body and frame are both pretty rough, but the engine fired up instantly and idled so smoothly. Only 271,000km on the odo, so she’s barely broken in.

Not too sure on my plan of attack just yet, but I def have to free up a stuck caliper (yank the pads out) so I can move the 4Runner on my driveway. 3 of 4 tires roll with much drag, but one refused to break loose. Currently it’s blocking the bay door so James’ FJ can’t get out.

Should I start by yanking the Chevy outta Redee, or the 3RZ outta the donor?

Looks solid man, def ready for some abuse. Amazing how quickly you get shit done. It’ll look less bulky with the winch fairlead breaking up that leading edge.

Thanks man, gonna try to get some steel through work and put pen to paper again.
Where do you buy your receivers? Just a princess auto special, or is there better source?

I dig that you chopped back the exhaust a little, those lower bed side kick ups looks pretty good. Curious what your front is gonna look like.

Good start on the bumper. I’d either turn down the tip (cut it, rotate 90 degrees, weld back), Or put it through the tube bumper. Double stack those side rails once you cut the bedside, and put a hole saw through the midpoint.

What size steel do you use for the bumper to frame connection plates? And the bulk of the bumper? I’m determined to make a bumper for Redee this year, but I don’t know what specs to target for the steel. Please enlighten me buddy.

Last night in The Shop, I fabbed up a new eccentric washer for Prestons snow blower. While walking it back around his house, one of the tracks started to come off, so he shut’r down and “dragged the effer home”.
I simply traced one of the washers that hadnt rattled loose on scrap metal, and reinstalled with a new bolt and lock washer.
    Good to go!

Cool buddy! The wheels are a sick colour, and tires look to be of proper size. Truck will look wicked on Chevy leaf springs, a mod I’ve always wanted to do.

Glad they put a clutch in it, frustrating they omitted (or lied) about the other issues. How much of the e-brake system is missing?

Taco looks great on those rims and tires! Are they 33s or 35s? Hard to tell, but lookin’ like 35s.

Gonna need to see a picture the taco with your trailer hooked up 👍🏽

It took a couple attempts but I found that a Canadian Tire Type A V-belt fit the auger pulleys perfectly. Prestons blower is only 5-hp (once upon a time), so I’m not too worried about it burning out the cheap belt. $25 in total parts and now he’s all done shovelling.

Yesterday was a 1/2 day at work, so I used some daylight hours to do another repair to Weldy. One of the two bolts that hold the handle bars on has been refusing to hold torque for two seasons. So I added some lightning to stabilize them and stop the flopping.

This morning I was up early and fixed Rusty with some welder action as well. Tough to explain the problem, but the symptom was no drive. When you squeeze the drive trigger, a cable pulls up on a lever, the lever rotates a shaft which moves the friction plate towards the friction wheel. The lever which causes the shaft to rotate had a stress crack and was not creating rotation. Think of it like having stripped splines. So I snaked my welder up into place and fuse those suckers together. Worked like a charm!

Hey buddy the new Taco looks great. Hope your parts come in quickly and your safety is straight forward.
Are the rear springs flat, or the front already have a lift in it? Looks a little higher in the front already.
I remember seeing that truck on kijiji (and in person a few years ago), and the scaffolding in the bed was pretty intense. I wonder how much weight you shed by not buying that part.

It’s been more than 10-years since I rode shotgun on one of those adventures, and I put no effort into the planning or acquisition…just shot gun.

But that does sound like quite the process.
Consider: Buy it, drive it most of the way home to a long term parking garage in Buffalo, then go home and do all the paperwork, pick it up after it all clears. At least you won’t do paperwork if you dont buy, or have to make the full trip distance twice.

That first gen looks sweet. Did you have one of those before the 4Runners?
