That YJ looks pretty clean from 30ft! How does it look up close?
Is it an auto or manual tranny?
Have you guys got it up and running yet?
toys-n-yotasParticipantYea, tinkering is therapeutic, even when it’s frustrating and/or painful.
I can finally put some attention into the “flipper” atv I bought in November. There was a 3-month back order on an essential part, so I said “F*CK THAT” and devoted 100% attention to Redee. My buddy picked up that BO part last week, so technically nothing is holding me back….other than motivation.
I had helped a buddy do a tune-up on a YJ he got for free a few years back. I’d love to have a brand new Grand Cherokee diesel, but not the $70k pre-tax price tag.
toys-n-yotasParticipantCruised on up to Wasaga today, delivered Redee to Lake Side Auto. Brian is gonna get me sorted out, hopefully done by mid next week. They are SUPER busy, and I’m glad to see it. I received koodos on my hard lines for “looking factory”, despite the fact that I can’t flare haha.
Not sure what to do with my free time now. Oh wait, Little Truckee is due for an oil change, tire rotation and first set of brake pads…and Sams focus needs her snow tires yanked. I guess waiting for Redee won’t be too unbearable.
toys-n-yotasParticipantI suggest you bring the trailer rain or shine. Set it up and put a big for sale sign. Might just get some exposure in the big city surrounded by a sea of Yotas.
toys-n-yotasParticipantNot many obstacles remain for Stage 1. Everything that is preventing me will be addressed by my buddy Brian @ Lake Side Auto in Wasaga Beach. Check their website http://lakesideauto.ca
All loaded up and ready to go….tomorrow after work.
Why did gas prices jump $0.10/L the day my avg fuel consumption is gonna sky rocket?!? Not impressed.
toys-n-yotasParticipantSaved by a Viking!! Thanks Finn for locating those brackets, my girls will be so happy. The m&g is perfect timing.
Last night I put tbe dash back together and installed a new license plate light. A $1 ebay adhesive back led strip light worked just fine. The adhesive sucks a little, but I didnt clean the surface very well, and it was a little cold when I applied it.
toys-n-yotasParticipantThanks for raiding the hoard Mark! I do have rear head rests, just too much to balance for one photo. Nothing was bolted in.
spent 4-hours last night chasing a ground fault which wouldn’t send any power to the blower motor. Pretty annoyed because I had verified it worked 3 weeks ago before I put the dash together. Afte5 3h50m I found my problem circuit; for some unknown reason I connected two random single-wire connectors by the fuse box under hood. Those were the Male/Female set for the EFI Resistors. I plugged 12V feed direct to ground simply because they fit together….Stupid.
Anyways, I’ve got 1/2 hour of dash reassembly to do before I can move onto cleaning and installing interior bits: headrests, door cards, sun visors, rear wall panels. Previously I avoided cleaning door cards / panels in lieu of re-making them, but thats a low priority right now.
toys-n-yotasParticipantI put in a couple hours last night to knock out a few stragglers on the list.
- All dash electrical connected
- dash trim, shifter surround and ammo can centre arm rest
- two firewall patch plates (bellhousing access holes)
- basic stereo hookup (no speakers yet)
- front seats, seat belets, sun visors, door sill trim
- Bolted the hood and soft top back on
Nothing too crazy, but damn near ready to hit the road….on the back of a trailer.
Think I must install drivers head rest, and both front door cards to cover up sharp edges. I gotta do some scrubbing though, both missed the last round of germ killing
WANTED: I am searching for rear seat bottom pivot brackets. These are what allow the rear seat to tilt forwards and get access to the fuel pump.
toys-n-yotasParticipantThanks guys, the fresh tires really made it pop. I’m pretty excited to roll Redee out of the shop. I had hoped to drive out under own power (and brakes), but at least DOWN the driveway is easier to push than UP the driveway.
A buddy from work has previous experience (and all the necessary compounds) for refreshing barn paint on a red vehicle. Perhaps pay him in beers, to put some elbow grease in.
Tonight I have a buddy coming over to help finish up the interior and two electrical tasks. The Stage-1 finish line is getting really close.
toys-n-yotasParticipantDuraTrac!
toys-n-yotasParticipantSecured the usage of my neighbours car trailer for next week, just gotta finish up the wiring and interior assembly. Hoping to put in a few solid hours Friday night and get most of the way done.
My girlies helped me bolt up the new Duratracs, which look awesome. Thanks for the help little ladies!
toys-n-yotasParticipantBrand new OEM Fuel Sending unit arrived in time from Japan, so I can install it before sending Redee out for some plumbing and Safety.
toys-n-yotasParticipantNo idea what went wrong with the flares. But I’ve got slow leaks at the distribution block under the master cylinder, and under the floor pans at a union.
That’s fine. Happy to Bring my buddy Brian some business. He runs a great shop, and I’ll feel better knowing my crappy flares won’t be my undoing.
toys-n-yotasParticipantGood news, dashboard is mostly installed.
Bad news, brake lines are leaking at my flares. I should have paid for the service, rather than paying twice for the service and my failed attempt.
My current plan is to finish up the interior installation, then drag Redee down to my buddy Brian @ Lakeside Auto in Wasaga Beach to hook me up with fuel and brakes lines, then a safety inspection. Hopefully I can get Redee off to Brian by early next week.
toys-n-yotasParticipantI’m not too worried about breaking bokts on the hard lines, I’m still under warranty till December.
Had a big night of electrical in the shop last night.
- Finished rewiring the Holley kit. Wrapped in looming, tied up, and lookin’ pretty
- wired up the E-fan kit, just need to attach it to a switched IGN trigger wire
- Tested/verified Neutral safety interlock
- temp install Sony head unit and one speaker. Free unit Works like a charm
- tidied up all wiring under the hood
I also completed a couple non-wiring tasks. I modified the Throttle cable linkage bracket to prevent it from rotating. An “anti-rotation” tab had fatigued and was creating significant slack in the cable. Prolly only about to hit 30% of WOT….not acceptable. Also tweaked the tranny kick-down cable to maintain alignment better.
With the throttle linkage cured, I topped the engine off with a new air filter.
I still must make 2 firewall fill plates before I put all the dash back in. 5 mins with tin snips and some sealant. Also gonna run speaker wires to the rear cargo area while everything is open and exposed.
