evan, nothing wrong with square/rectangle tube, look at how many R.O.P./F.O.P. systems are fabbed from the same. i think you’ve nailed it quite well.

    Thanks Finn.

Princess Auto has a deal on these wheels and tires on sale so I grabbed them for the camper. I like them, do you guys think they’re too flashy?

I decided I’m going probably going to build a swing down spare tire carrier for the back to carry a full size spare. It has to swing down because it’ll hit the slide out when you set up the trailer. I might a water jug to it too with a valve, so when it swings down you can open up the valve and wash your feet off. Something like this

I don’t think the rims are too flashy. A little concerned about their relative strength when bouncing down a trail compared to a steel rim though. Steel would bend, aluminum will crack (chunks break off)

    That looks like Darwins 60.

Evan, can you take a picture for me of where the horn bolts to the front bulkhead, and which way the wiring runs towards the firewall?  I don’t even know where to begin looking for it on Redee.

Yeah it is true about the alloy, I was thinking that if it bent at least you can hammer the steel back. I try not to do any crazy rock crawling with the trailer but I haven’t really used it too much yet.

I’ll try to grab a pic tomorrow for you!

Haven’t been wrenching on Orange Sapphire too much, my good friend bought a J**p YJ with an SBC so we’ve been messing around with that. So far we put an edelbrock intake on and new carb. Drained the oil and 3L of water came out, the rest was sludgey milkshake.

Side note we used my trailer and took his new eco diesel and we were both really impressed with how it towed. In case anyone is interested in one, it did well. That’s about 5500-6000 lbs so a decent haul. The 8 speed works well for keeping you in the powerband on hills.

That YJ looks pretty clean from 30ft! How does it look up close?

Is it an auto or manual tranny?

Have you guys got it up and running yet?

    I like that 4runner actually, I think I’d rather a SBC than a SBF but that’s cool.

its okay from up close it has a couple rough spots on the body and frame. He did finally get it running and it sounded pretty good.

it has that same door weatherstrip issue – lol.  it’d be the second best sounding 4runner in Ontario!

Dumb weather stripping, I finally just taped it up under the door so it doesn’t sag.

Good news: yesterday I got the taillight converter installed but the bad news is I guess the wire taps didn’t work perfectly because the left signal and brake don’t work. So I’ll have to look at it again. More bad news the rear window lift mechanism decided to rust and break in half so I’ll have to try to swap that out somehow. It’s a real pain to get too. For now I might just throw on the half top and not worry about it I dont know. It stays under a cover anyway.

Loving the 5-spd on that SBF conversion. I’ve sent that ad to 3 buddies already, hoping to keep it close so I can buy it in 3-15 years haha.

The left side taillight wires run down the left side of the truck, you’ll have to tap into wires on both side of the trunk to get all your trailer outputs needed. Bit of a pain to run them back and forth.

Or, check that the conversion wire is secure in the Tap, I’ve messed up a couple when my wire to add slides out of the tap 5mm and doesn’t get cut into at all.

Rear windows are a challenge, though I have successfully repaired 2.  One was a wiring nightmare, the other had a lift mechanism full off mud and grease….and a wiring nightmare.

Glad your buddy got the YJ running!

Sigh… I bought another Jeep today. For someone who hates Jeeps I sure do stumble across a lot of them.

I noticed this CJ around the corner from my place at an old golf course. I went in a couple times and left my phone number. He finally called me back today and said 500 bucks would take it away. It’s got 35×14.5 swampers that seem to hold air and he bought a fiberglass tub from Ohio years ago that looks to be in good shape. Motor doesn’t run currently, has no top, seats are destroyed and the tub is full of water lol. Oh well I’m going to try and flip it or part it out.

Hahaha I laughed pretty hard at your opening. I’m sure you can turn a profit between the fiberglass tub, swampers and scrap metal.

On a side note….How much for the swampers?

I looked at this thing for like 5 mins, once I get it back to my house I’ll let you know if they’re worth anything, they’ve been low for a while so maybe there’s damage who knows…

He has to get back to me still agter he finds the ownership and keys.

lol.  I would have jumped on that too!  You could flip the dumb bells for $20!
