Toy-YotaParticipant
Did my best to get started on the bumper, going to be much like my last one, except dual swing outs. Had to cut out the rear crossmember, and notch the frame out so I could get the bumper low enough to clear the gate
Toy-YotaParticipantSo friggin pumped, the lift turned out really good. Higher than a thought it was going to be, which is fine because once the bumpers and winch get on it’ll settle a bit. The 255/85s I don’t think look too bad, definitely could use more tire but for our trip to moab the fuel mileage and less sound will be welcomed.
Been hacking away at the trailer too, getting a spare tire mount ready to go.
Toy-YotaParticipantMaybe Finn will chime in , I think he has a bunch of parts around, he may have some rear window peices.
Toy-YotaParticipantShe always wanted siblings.
Glad your gonna give us a few updates! What’s the plan with the other 4runners now?
Toy-YotaParticipantSlick I’ve always liked the look of that bumper on your truck, I think mine will be similar, except with two swing outs for tire and highlift/gas can.
4wheel parts sent me 3 front shocks and one rear so they have to order another rear.
Other than that, no more leaking gas tank, I did rear powerstop brakes and new calipers and I think I got the pedal feeling good again. It was soft. Tightened up the squeaking belts, put a small light bar on the front because the headlights aren’t too great. I’m going to get some more metal for the bumper and start on that soon too.
Toy-YotaParticipantFinally got the goods from 4wheelparts
Toy-YotaParticipantThanks guys, the truck seems really solid overal. Really pumped for Moab, still in the planning stage and working like crazy to get the truck together. Still waiting on the lift parts.
Pulled the rear bumper today and started deciding how I want to do the bumper and tire carrier.
The tires I picked up are 255/85r16 old style mud terrains Tom! They’re basically brand new. Anywhere here’s what I’m thinking for a high clearance bumper, probably something like this, probably square tube though but much like my last bumper.
As you can see there’s a rear crossmember that’s gotta be cut out, I’ll probably have to hack off some of the frame to get the bumper up high. I’ll remove the hitch and put a receiver into the bumper.
Toy-YotaParticipantWe’re going to be in Ottawa in the Saturday, so lame wish we could come. All these plans put a damper on the build. Today I spent the whole day swapping out the fuel tank though. Got it all finished and back in, so that’s good news I was dreading doing it because of all the undercoating. Really excited to get the lift kit in and rear bumper torn off.
Toy-YotaParticipantSounds like you need a swing out tire carrier!
Toy-YotaParticipantEventful day! Sold my camper and delivered it this morning, and tonight I fought long weekend traffic to get the fuel tank and the 255s from Aurora. Can’t wait to get the lift on, tank changed and tires swapped over.
Toy-YotaParticipantWere going to take my friends expedition trailer with roof top tent. It’s a lot lighter and has better storage options. We may sleep in the truck for parts too in the way.
Today I took off the side steps on the driver side (that’s all I had time for) I went to 4 wheel parts and ordered the old man emu HD 2.5 suspenion kit; which I think was more money than I have ever spent on an entire project vehicle. Friday I’m supposed To go pickup a used gas tank because mine has a leak at the top somewhere. The guy who has the tank also has a set of mud terrain 255/85r16 which is basically 33.5×10 skinnies. I think that’ll be good for our road trip!

Toy-YotaParticipantThanks guys! It’s a BC truck, and honestly we had it up on the hoist today for a safety and it looked really really good, I’m happy Overall. It’s much better than I thought for what I paid. It passed safety today and got an appraisal so it’s all good to go. I put a rock auto order last night, spark plugs, rear power stop brakes, valve cover gasket. I have a solid 3 grand to put into and more once I sell my camper, and a bunch of tires and spare parts etc.
First step is going to be rear brakes and getting a lift in it. Probably gonna go with old man emu, a 2.5” to start
Toy-YotaParticipantWith the new owner he’s been keeping in contact with me so maybe he’ll start a thread on here. I bought a new project today so I’ll post pics in a new thread!
Toy-YotaParticipantThanks guys! Slick knows what’s up, unlike most people I have the space to keep stuff I just need the money to build something else.
As for now I’m thibkinf An overland style build, 4 door Tacoma or an 80 series I think. To start I’ll probably build a swing out tire carrier for it because I had a lot of fun building the one on my 4runner. Just armor winch etc would be great to start
Toy-YotaParticipantVery bittersweet, I sold my 4runner yesterday, instant sellers remorse. A guy named Tommy bought it from St. Catharines, super cool dude.
I Definitely know it’s going to be one of those vehicles you look back on and regret selling but I’m ready to build/buy something different that’s easier to road trip in and not have to trailer. I said I’d only sell it if I got a certain amount and if it was to the right person, and it was. He works in Hamilton so I’m sure we’ll see the truck around. I told him about the forum and said we’d love it if he keep documenting the work done to it and the wheeling trips.
He picks it up this week so I still have the weekend to enjoy it! But it’s weird, definitely never thought I was going to sell it after all the work and time I put into it, but it’s time for something different, I think we may do a road trip to Moab in November so I gotta find something else hopefully by then.
