UPDATE – Well I went off and got my amateur radio license. I also purchased the Baofeng UV5R handheld radio. This will allow you to tune into GSRM, UHF and VHF frequencies. It costs approximately $70.

I would recommend this radio for the flexibility and the cost.

As an update. I had found a list of a few mechanics in the GTA that could work on the TLC, but all had closed or retired. I finally found Yan from Cruiser Addiction. He is not in the GTA, but he is very experienced and can do diesel rebuilds.
