Toyota TomParticipant
Thanks guys! @FJTTSE Yea this is my 4th year in a row going to ardbeg but first year bringing my own truck, we usually go 3rd week of August for the entire week. I love it there, so many cool trials and spot to check out.
Toyota TomParticipantThanks! I’ve had this truck done since August I’m just posing the build up here when I have a chance I add to it lol I wish I could be this productive in real time lol
Toyota TomParticipantThis was at rays place in Minden. It’s a privately owned off-road park kinda thing, they have mud bogs and trails and a bunch of RVs you can rent to stay on for the weekend. We stayed at the cottage there and it was decent enough for a couple guys. I’ll definitely be going back when the trails are dry.
As for highlights, probably doing the rayzor trail there was the most fun, and seeing my buddy’s 92 4runner hurt feelings lol there was a Jeep XJ that was built up pretty good on 35s, and he had to winch up a hill he couldn’t make.. the stock 4runner just walked it!! It was awesome
Toyota TomParticipantI did rockers as well but didn’t get any pictures.. and then I found a mint tailgate that I bought of a yota guy out in London. So that fixed the bottom of my tailgate being rotten. Then prime and paint!!
Yaayyyy!! It’s one colour!! I was goin for the quicksand colour that Toyota uses on there newer Tacomas, I love that colour. Dura paint in Hamilton mixed me up some that was spot on!
Toyota TomParticipantThere was a ton of bondo on this thing! It’s been repainted once before.
Then we added some cheese of our own to make it looks somewhat decent. I was really in a hurry to finish this truck to have it ready for ardbeg in August so definitely could have turned out better but I didn’t really car near the end, I just wanted to wheel .

Lots of sanding!Toyota TomParticipantAnd then she went under the knife. Time to make it look pretty one last time! Tried to take pictures of the process but I get to caught up in the moment and always forget. I bought some replacement panels I found online. Wolf steel I think it was called.
Toyota TomParticipantFew pics of the little drove I went on before the body work went under way
Toyota TomParticipantSome pics of before the carnage…
Toyota TomParticipantThe tire blew off the rim as I was winching… a little help from the ether bunny and it was all good. Need beadlocks!
Toyota TomParticipantHaha it did so well! That was the rear shaft I broke! Worst part was I had a spare with me but I gave it to my buddy who broke his first lol
not going to cost me anything, I’ll have the rear shaft back this week and I have a new fender I can steal off the barn find but I won’t put I on till I build a cage for it. All in good fun!
Toyota TomParticipantStarted the front end lift didn’t really get much pictures of that process. But this one I have pretty well explains it..
As you can the the sledge, zipcut and torch came out to party lol replaced a crap ball joint and got all the lift peices in. Didn’t go crazy spending money on the front end as I had plans to do a SAS in the next year or so.
Lift is done! I have these hood louvers that I have been wanting to install. It’s got the V6 and I know there prone to overheating and popping head gaskets so I thought it would be a good idea to help vent and maybe give it a fighting chance… this truck does run surprisingly well. Haven’t installed it yet cause I like the OG look of these trucks front end and I just don’t want to ruin It lol
couldnt resist going out for a rip and it was great! Flex test!!
Toyota TomParticipantThanks @toys-n-yotas. I’ve never done body work before and this was my first crack at it, if it wasn’t for my friends expertise I would have never done it. And would have finished out waaaayy worse lol
Oh yes, a lot of R+D went into this truck!
Toyota TomParticipantLooks awesome!! Can you shim or move the hook side of the latch a little to make it fit tighter? I can’t really see the style of latch you have there
Toyota TomParticipantRear end is pretty well done. Except that I realized i f*cked myself pretty good when I went to install the rear bumper… When I tore the truck down i removed the hitch that was welded onto it and it took a piece off the end of the frame with it. Sooo I smashed a 2×4 peice of steel into the end of the frame and welded it in so it had lots of strength to put the spring mount on. Then I had the bright idea of capping the end for more strength and to keep the mud out… that’s where I screwed up. To mount the bumper it has rails that slide into the frame and bolt on, can’t slide the bumper in the frame if it’s capped! Was pretty cheesed needless to say…but I fabricated up a new mounting system. Pretty much just cut the rails off and welded plate onto the bumper and drilled holes , then I put a peice of 4” flat bar across the caps and drilled matching holes and bolted it up. So this bumper has to stay with this truck forever lol
And while in the fab process I cooked up some rock sliders for the turd.
Toyota TomParticipantEwww stock..
<p style=”text-align: left;”>Then it took forever for me to weld the spring mounts in the proper spots and measure everything out and triple check it was straight as an arrow… witch paid off because it’s drives great, no dog walking or anything👍🏻 . Painted the axle and leafspings with tremclad to make it look fresh one last time lol Welded new shock mounts on the axle and ended up ordering a low range off-road adjustable top shock mount. </p>
The flash really brings out the rust 👌🏻I ended up using the rear end that was originally in the truck because this is an 88 with the V6 and its . wider than the earlier 4runners witch I learned as I measured the width right then… oh well. I did end up putting a trail gear diff cover on too and a new diff breather that extends higher so when I have to play in the mud/water.
