Toy-YotaParticipant
There’s always something to do, there is something soothing about working on a project though. Whenever I have to fix my work trucks, or a mower it seems like a chore. But it’s fun tinkering on a project vehicle.
A good friend just bought a YJ with a 305 SBC in it, it didn’t run but it’s fun tinkering with it to get it to run.
Toy-YotaParticipantWe really need a like button…
Toy-YotaParticipantCan’t wait to see it running and driving at the meet and greet!
Toy-YotaParticipantJust ordered a taillight converter for my 4runner, I was thinking about bringing my pop up camper to the meet and greet. I figure if the weather isn’t great or people wanna sit and chat they could do it in there. And it looks cool….
Toy-YotaParticipantLooks so good! You’re getting there man! Will you buff the paint a little you think?
Toy-YotaParticipantThat’s awesome, what happened with the flaring process?
Toy-YotaParticipant1) my power stroke dripped ATF right from that same spot. I think those lines are really impervious to road debris.
2) awesome progress really glad to see!
3) tires look sick
4) I’m glad You were proactive with the gas tank situation.
5) I ordered a chip for my 7.3 and it didn’t include the broker charges so I got d*cked by those crazy charges too.
Toy-YotaParticipantI’ve used them many times, even with flux core wire the welder does what it needs to do. That is a very very very good deal! I’d buy it.
Toy-YotaParticipantThe signal light combo is a great mod for a first gen. Just a suggestion which may already know: early toyota fuel tanks can be really hard to remove I’ve found. The top of the bolt I think had some kind of little retainer to stop it from spinning. I tacked the head of the bolt to the mounting surface so all I had to do was hit the nut with an impact and the whole bolt wouldn’t spin. May no be the worst idea since it’s out.
Toy-YotaParticipantMan good for you, lots done! Here’s the pic of how mine mounts in case you still need it. Just behind the grill obviously
Toy-YotaParticipantI might have the horn parts you need, I’ll take a picture of how it mounts. Let me know if there’s any odds and ends you need though and I’ll take a look.
Toy-YotaParticipantYeah it is true about the alloy, I was thinking that if it bent at least you can hammer the steel back. I try not to do any crazy rock crawling with the trailer but I haven’t really used it too much yet.
I’ll try to grab a pic tomorrow for you!
Toy-YotaParticipantThanks Finn.
Princess Auto has a deal on these wheels and tires on sale so I grabbed them for the camper. I like them, do you guys think they’re too flashy?
I decided I’m going probably going to build a swing down spare tire carrier for the back to carry a full size spare. It has to swing down because it’ll hit the slide out when you set up the trailer. I might a water jug to it too with a valve, so when it swings down you can open up the valve and wash your feet off. Something like this

Toy-YotaParticipantI hear yeah. I’ve rebled and adjusted the drums but maybe they have to be done again.
As for the bumper, I built this one with my friends mastercraft 110v welder from Canadian tire, a grinder and a some drill bits. Even if I went bought the welder on kijiji for 200 bucks, I would be way ahead. I got all the metal for free, or used what I had leftover. The hinge for the swing out was like 20 bucks at princess auto, and I re-used an old hub for the mounting surface of the tire carrier. That bumper would be 1000 plus dollars so I say build your own.
Im no expert welder either but I think it turned out really well. My goal for this was to use square tube and not make it look super home made/backyard.
Toy-YotaParticipantEarly 70s Hilux sounds like a cool ratrod! It will for sure come pre-rusted and patina’d so that’s a plus.
