Here’s a series of photos straight from Advanced Adapters circa March 1998
Coles notes: 355cui, supercharged, est 450hp, 13” lift, toyota 5-spd, 39” tires. No long term update though. Perhaps I can google search this particular truck further.
July 26, 2019 at 11:21 pm #208343toys-n-yotasParticipantJuly 28, 2019 at 3:40 pm #208351toys-n-yotasParticipantMade a big Rock Auto order to replace all the front end steering components (except centre drag link), and Bilstein 5100’s all around. Parts should arrive this coming week, but prolly take a while to get it all bolted up.
Tomorrow I intend to put the vent window into drivers side door. Wife and kids won’t be home when I finish work, and figure I can finish in an hour or two. Redee has been parked since I swapped over the pass side door, so still don’t know for sure if the glare/refraction when the window is partially open will bother me.
July 28, 2019 at 7:03 pm #208352finn the kareilian vikingKeymasterawesome tom, yeah grubby (uncookedgrub from the old forum) did the vent conversion on his p.o.s.. he was stoked when he bought a set of 1pc window doors from me n found the indents for the vent upright. that’s who i was talkin’ about when i told you about the conversion being possible. the mirror thing he never mentioned, but i think you’ed get used to it.
oh, by the way, did you make it to ardbeg a couple weeks ago?
July 29, 2019 at 6:52 pm #208359toys-n-yotasParticipantFinn, I knew it was you who mentioned it to me. Totally doable. If you’re going Vented to 1-pc window, theres a gusset between the inner door frame and door skin that has to get cut out.
I finished the drivers side swap, then took Redee for a cruise. Completely sold on the retrofit, the airflow was just as the Yota Dr prescribed. I’m only annoyed that my vent window frames are kinda rusty, will be keeping my eyes open for another set in the far off future. In the meantime, gonna work on moving the mirrors so the windows can open fully. Might just drill two more holes in each door, and nut/bolt them on.

Finn, my buddy and I made it up to Ardbeg by Thursday 5pm. We grabbed the camp site at the southern point on the main beach, and had a blast. Cleaned up the campsite a little too. Dug 35 cans and a 1/2 bag of garbage outta the fire pit, and filled the rest of the bag too. Not pleased with the former tennants, garbage everywhere.
Wasn’t all work though, managed to somehow find a minute for rest & relaxation

August 8, 2019 at 12:19 pm #208379toys-n-yotasParticipantHopped in Redee to go to No Frills yesterday and got the answer to my “intermittent starting” issue.
ECU voltage @ 10.1 V. I could hear the starter solenoid clicking away, and voltage fluctuated 10-11.0V. Ten tries, no improvement. I hooked up my new travel battery booster with 1200amp output, and she fired instantly and powerfully. Weak battery.
On the way home, voltage was 11.4 before cranking, and she took three attempts to fire. Will be sourcing a new AGM battery to put this issue behind me.
Still haven’t opened any rockauto boxes, or relocated my wing mirrors, or finished installing door panels. But damn is it still fun to cruise
August 11, 2019 at 11:27 am #208389Slick_YotaKeymasterI had replaced my OEM battery that was on it’s last legs after 10 years of hard service. The difference was amazing with the new AGM eliminator. Even in -40 temperatures, it fires up strong and immediately.
August 11, 2019 at 4:59 pm #208392toys-n-yotasParticipantJust when I thought I had it figured out, Redee’s no start throws me a loop. Even with 1200amp boost, starter just clicked away this morning. Tapped on the solenoid with a hammer, no improvement. Was able to turn the starter gear with a screwdriver some and 5-10 tries later it finally cranked over.
Bad starter. Or dirty starter. The dust shield is more of a suggestion than a guard at this point in time. Or starter needs a little shimming to gain clearance to the flywheel? Back to square one either way.
Slick, either way a new battery is on the short list.
August 11, 2019 at 8:53 pm #208396Slick_YotaKeymasterI had to replace my starter (and eventually alternator) after immersing both of them in some Ardbeg sludge a few years back – this photo was after pulling it back about 4′ – the headlights were under water when I first went in…:
August 12, 2019 at 7:36 pm #208398toys-n-yotasParticipantI gotta get the starter out, then get the Napa guys to find me a replacement. Hoping I can find a cheap refurbished one for $50 or less. Tack on $200 for a AGM battery.
Took an hour today to replace both front shocks with new Bilstein 5100’s. Took a little tour around the county block and it already feels heaps better. Motivated to swap out the rears now, and see just how smooth the cruise can get.
Took my girls on a sideroad trip to Meaford beach from Shelburne. Redee cruised like a champ, no idea how much fuel she drank. Almost didn’t get to start our trip with 10-mins of “click-click-click no-start” in the driveway.
August 13, 2019 at 11:23 am #208399toys-n-yotasParticipantFinished the rear shock swap in half hour after work last night. No test drive, gonna savour that.
August 18, 2019 at 6:40 pm #208418toys-n-yotasParticipantOh man, These Bilsteins are sweet. The rear is still pretty rough, but I blame the 4” lift springs that are oversprung for Redee. The shackle angle is all wrong, and there’s hardly any travel. I could prolly add 500 pounds before I experience any sag.
August 18, 2019 at 6:49 pm #208419toys-n-yotasParticipantFound a 2003 4Runner with 4.7L on kijiji for $1000…. got me thinking about that swap potential as it’s backed by a factory 5-spd auto.
Cheaper than swapping in a W56 and can sell off this Chevy setup.
Comparing 15L/100km against 22L/100 that I currently consume.
More things to ponder.
