Hey y’all its been a while, life’s been too busy.

Anyway, everything’s lining up with the garage idea,  we went to the bank for a line of credit to get this garage thing set in motion. Looks like we’ll land the line of credit… yippee!

Now that I’m so much closer to that dream, work all of a sudden got really slow. The company is talking about work share through E.I. , this is after the company laid off 20 employees, so pulling the trigger on a garage build seem less temping. Im so close to building a garage it hurts. I’m thinking of building it anyways. I’ve been told the building I’m in at work, is not going to loose any more people to layoff. Sooo…

The devil on one shoulder says build, the angel on the other says: hold off till a rainbow appears, letting the golden unicorn gallops by, while lollypops rain from the sky.

    life is far from dull

Well as usual, I’m dead in the water. I blew a hard brake line a couple days ago. The hard line that runs along the axle tube in the rear on the 4Runner. I lost all my fluid. At first I thought I had a leaking diff. Anyway, Toyota has a backorder on a direct replacement, so I need to make my own line(s). Since this is my DD it needs to be up and running. My exhaust is also severed just before the front axle as well, dangling. the truck frame and one hanger keep it from totally falling off.

Now, im going to make my own brake lines, but can’t find my brake line bender and one of the dies for my flare kit. I said to myself, fuck it ill buy another bender and flare kit. Princess Auto does not carry the bender or flare kit anymore, Canadian Tire carries them but was out of stock.. go figure!. Parts Source want too much $ for the kit, so I gave up for the day… what a pisser!

So! in the mean time I grabbed the battery from the Runner and swapped it into the Tacoma, so I can at least get to work. The Tacoma is in great condition post frame swap… BUT! the stock suspension Toyota swapped in is awful! I compare the suspension to a wet noodle. The sway bar is also deleted which make it a bit scary while cornering.

Long story short, I can’t make Ardbeg. I need to fix the 4Runner for this coming week, and the Taco is not really ready to drive let alone wheel.

Im starting to wonder if Ardbeg has cursed me… wtf?!

Have a great weekend guys, have fun!

Not a Cruiser, but hey. KM’s are a tad high, but would make a nice project truck

    The K.O.Lee surface grinder.

I also whipped together an outdoor use blacksmith post vise stand. I was sick of not having a vise outside. I’ll keep it in the shed, away from the elements. This sucker is heavier then it looks.

Well, I thought id make my garageless experience even more frustrating… LOL

I was made 2 offers I could NOT! refuse.

the first offer was a 9×42 Bridgeport Milling Machine. I’ve had an eye out for a Bridgeport for a few years now. Usually the price for one is higher for a beat-up machine, and a nice one is more than id like to pay.

I responded to an ad for a Hartford Mill, Bridgeport clone. that mill sold instantaneously. Kinda bummed, I asked the seller if he happens to have a Bridgeport he’d part with… he said yes!

The Bridgeport he offered was in amazing condition, he just wanted to get rid of it.

Anyway, I picked it up for a very good price $2900. Came with some collets and was equipped with a quality DRO… big bonus! Wired for 220v, it originally cane with a 3 phase 600v motor, he gave me that aw well. If I ever get into a shop with 600v I’ll swap out the 220v.

The second offer was a K.O.Lee.co surface grinder for the topping price of $150. It needs a cleanup and a new hydraulic ram for the X axis, and a 220v motor. The table glides well in the X & Y axis manually, and the grinding head raises and lowers without issue. I have a motor for it but need to source a ram for the table. I can’t tell if the hydraulic power pack has issues, till I fire it up. All in all, it should be a straight forward rebuild/cleanup. For $150 I can get for money for it if all fails and it needs to be scrapped.

Typically a surface grinder goes for a few thousand dollars used. I think I did o.k.

Now I REALLY need my own garage, where I can permanently set this stuff up. My shop space is the current home for now, not a great place to use it, but not impossible. There’s no way these are going in my basement shop… LOL.

Steve, is that 14.5′ inside width or outside width?

well still have a disaster of a backyard, and sitting exactly where I was, when I started this thread.

now I’m debating a 15×30 garage but feel that would be too small. especially after putting a Bridgeport mill in there.

I wish I lived in the country.

Welcome Ryan, glad you joined TNORTT.

Ya man we welcome anyone who is interested in meeting like minded folks. Whatever you wheel, is good by us, even if its not a Toyota.

Ryan is in my Millwright classes, we’re both apprentice millwrights going into level 2. Ryan’s a stand up dude, we’re lucky to have him join our merry band of gear-heads.

    Again, welcome Ryan!

I’m game. I’ve been  MIA with this trade school stuff, way behind in life stuff. If I can get my ducks in a row and bring the Runner up to scratch I’m in like Flint.
